It’s time for yet another conference and opportunity to learn more about the photography craft.
A couple of times a year we attend conferences to improve our skills as photographers, both technically as well as to improve our business skills. This year’s Canadian national convention (PPOC) is at the beautiful Fairmont Mount Tremblant about 1.5 hours from Montreal.
Walking through the Village today you could blink and you feel like you are at Whistler, well except for the Mountains! The Village has the same charm as Whistler but an Eastern version of it with a Montreal flair. I am getting the opportunity to speak french though… pretty much everyone attending the conference is from Quebec it seems - not much representation from BC yet! I also found out that after a glass of wine they speak even faster here!
Hope to update with some photos of the area. Bon Soir!

While Spring has just begun, the weather of late hasn’t really been that appealing. But as the saying goes: April showers bring May flowers!
One of my many interests is floral design so I decided to blog about it since it represents art in a different form and is a departure from photographing people! And with all the rain we’ve been getting its nice to remind you that studies have shown that flowers actually improve your mood! So read on to be educated!
Floral design is an art form we often take for granted. It takes a keen eye for design as well as intimate knowledge of all the types of floral species, in addition to understanding colour theory, texture and how to blend the two to create an arrangement for the numerous occasions that they are given!
Orchids and roses are good mood enhancers. Orchids are my favorite and are not only calming to look at but are a popular wedding choice for their simplicity. Not only do they have a scent that is pleasant and calming but their double blossoms, velvety to the touch have a feeling of formality.

Calla Lilies meaning ‘magnificent beauty’ are popular in all seasons, the mini forms in brightly coloured pink yellow and lavender are popular in the spring and summer months while the large white (seen here), and darker calla lilies (orange, purple, deep black/purple) are more popular in the Fall and Winter
Calla lilies are great arranged on their own for a minimalistic look, or singley as bouttonieres at a wedding. So guys, if you want to tell your wife that she is an exceptional woman and you think she’s gorgeous, this is the flower to give her.

Tulips signify fame and perfect love. Yellow signify’s ‘joy’, so let’s say you meet that perfect someone on the reality tv show, “the Batchelor” then with your newfound fame you can shout with joy from the rooftop your undying love for him and how you’ll be the perfect mates for life! Also pictured here are bright green button mums which will show him your appreciation of his friendship and your happiness!

Sunflowers have a way of bringing the sunshine in hence the ’sun’ part. They are also a great gift for a friend who is down since they stand for loyalty and longevity. So, give these flowers to a friend to declare your faithfulness since they will demonstrate your willingness to stand up for one another - and that’s just what friends do! I love the idea of just placing one lonely sunflower in a dish as seen here and pairing it with something ‘industrial’ looking to add interest.

Cymbidium Orchids are my favorite for display in the studio. They are beautiful in a shallow dish with rockery or in a tall cylindrical vase. Signifying luxury and strength, they are a common choice for event work such as weddings, parties and upscale occasions.

Hyacinths (the blue flowers here) are a spring favorite in our gardens and pots by the front door.
They have a spring fresh fragrance that reminds me of the smell of sheets drying on the line. I usually plant Hyacinth bulbs in late October and pair them with several varieties of tulips. They make for beautiful spring bouquets in the studio and you can cut them from your yard, or pick some up from my favorite Florist: Blooming Buds Florist in Coquitlam!

Hello all,
We just received some great, but sad, news. Our wonderful and beautiful production assistant Lila is leaving us to follow her heart and passion for a last minute, but too good to pass up, opportunity in a far-off exotic land.
So we need to fill her position as soon as we can - which is going to be tough as they are a diverse pair of shoes she wears.
The ideal candidate is:
1) Incredibly well organized and self-managed
2) Very personable and friendly with a flair for sales
3) An artist at heart willing to duke it out in Photoshop to help produce beautiful works of art
The person we are looking for will be involved heavily with our Kids of Vancouver 2010 book project.
We know it can be hard to find a sales consultant and production assistant/artist rolled into one person. So if you know someone who happens to be great at sales OR someone who loves photoshop and coordinating our office then please forward them to us.
Aside from a strong outgoing personality, the greatest asset they can possess is the ability to learn and absorb all we have to teach.
Candidates can reach us at info@veridamo.com

The wonderful thing about these collections is that the options are endless for display. This arrangement is intended to be displayed above a staircase but it could just as easily be separated into two different arrangements or rearranged to look perfect in almost any space.

This is a composition of 6 individual canvases measuring 66 x 40 inches in total.

So, going backwards, many of you have been asking about my infamous trip to Cuba in November. With the book project ending and the Christmas rush upon us, I never did post any images. Look for the vacation pics on tomorrow’s blog entry.
Cuba was a somewhat “restful” vacation - although not much sleeping went on! The trouble is, I met a wonderful group of people who’s young spirit kept me on my toes and reminded me of my University days. In the end, I photographed the wedding of a young Toronto couple and have gained some great friends out of the trip. The images aren’t representative of our signature “Veridamo moody” style since I didn’t pack my suitcase with the usual tools of choice but it is the couple that makes them special!

A toast to a long and happy marriage!

Jeff and Kim… will wedding bells ring next for them?

Isabelle and Roy came all the way from Newfoundland.

Jeff, These boys could get into some serious trouble together!

The whole gang… so many it took a train to bring them all over!
